Heritage is an important part of our lives. As a first generation American in my family, I’ve learned that balancing two different cultures can be difficult. With this, I keep myself aware of accepting and embracing both of the cultures that I am part of. This series examines the contrast within the two cultures I’m a part of, and my awareness of these contrasts as I attempt to harmonize these aspects of my life. One may be so influenced by their surroundings that they no longer reside with their heritage. I chose to photograph different aspects that come from the two sides of my culture to show the differences, but also the similarities that emerge. I hope to preserve both parts of my identity, allowing them to be prevalent in my future.
