Social media is a powerful tool for youth worldwide to express their perspective on the current social climate of their society. This often involves social and political issues. I am showcasing teenaged girls of color and their use of social media. Social media can have a significant negative influence on teenage girls through exposure to unattainable beauty standards and things like internet trolls. The impact of these forces on young girls can be low self esteem and other mental health issues. Teenage girls are fed up with the lack of diversity in contemporary beauty standards in the United States. They are using social media to address this issue by embracing their natural beauty, by no longer trying to fit into an unattainable beauty standard, and speaking up about this issue. These teens are also developing their voices through the use of social media by interacting with other teens who share the same interest as them. Above all, teenage girls are joining together in solidarity to promote positivity in the internet.
