Maryam Rahman

Maryam Rahman is a 16 year old sophomore attending Townsend Harris High School in Queens, where she was born and raised. Aside from playing basketball and sneaker browsing, she can be found taking pictures of random things that catch her eye. Starting off taking pictures with her family on vacation, she grew a liking to the versatility of photography. Not really focusing on portraiture, she is interested in nature and still lives. Unsure of what she’s going to do in the future, she knows she will never stop taking pictures.

As humans, we are so used to seeing things one way, whether it be in regards to our eyesight or our position. Now imagine you were an ant, seeing everything in, what humans call, macro. You will be able to see details that the naked eye could not, such as the refraction of an image in water droplets. Through this photo series, I captured what I see on a daily basis, my home and my surroundings—things I would not look twice at. Capturing these in macro allows me to see the complex details and the vibrant colors that always amaze me.
