Mingren was born in Guangdong Province of China. He spent most of his childhood there. He has a variety of habits including: swimming, drawing, and playing basketball. He has been interested in photography since he was 7 years old when he got his first camera. He moved to America after 7th Grade. The new environment has given him a lot of challenges. One of the most difficult challenges was language, which would affect his communication with others. At first, he felt a little bit uncomfortable, but later, he has overcome this language difficulty through self-study and reading different books. Now, he feels very confident with himself.
As a photographer, I would like to take pictures of different elements in our life. This includes: urban landscapes, people, and architecture. New York City for example has more and more tall buildings that have been constructed since the Industrial Revolution, which changes the skyline. Through my pictures, I hope the audience will be able to catch a glimpse of unique aspects of American culture. I’m trying to tell a story by showing the New York City style of buildings in different periods of time. I will be able to achieve this by taking pictures of architecture constructed in different eras, up to the present, in order to compare, contrast and examine the differences between traditional New York and modern New York.
